Armenian Genocide 100th Anniversary
Religious Activities

Fellow Armenians,

This year marks the 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, the first Genocide of the 20th century, where 1.5 million of our ancestors were killed and hundreds of thousands were forced to leave our ancestral homeland. Throughout the world, Armenian communities are planning events both to raise awareness to our cause and to remember those that tragically lost their lives.
Since October, Der Hayr and the Board of Trustees have been meeting with the other Armenian Churches in order to organize religious activities. This letter is to announce what has been confirmed to this point and to ask for your attendance at these events, which are the following:

April 19th – All Chicagoland Armenian churches will hold a Badarak at the Armenian All Saints Apostolic Church, in Glenview, starting at 10am. During the service, a requiem will be held for the final time for the victims, as they will be canonized into Sainthood on April 23rd in Etchmiadzin, Armenia. More details to follow.

April 24th – A vesper service will be held at Armenian All Saints Apostolic Church in Glenview at 7:30pm. This service will follow the commemorative program that will take place in Daley Plaza featuring Chris Bohjalian and other notable figures.

There also will be an Ecumenical Service that includes all Chicagoland and Wisconsin churches with date/place/time TBD.

You can follow and learn more about all of the activities and initiatives being planned at www.chicagogenocidecentennial.com.

Respectfully.

Der Zareh Sahakian
